In Pittsburgh, the best-known bakeries and bagel shops have lines on weekend mornings, so arrive early or order ahead where the shop offers it. Across Pennsylvania, immigrant bakeries add Mexican pan dulce, Vietnamese banh mi bread, Chinese buns, Middle Eastern sweets and European rye to the mix, and many gluten-free and vegan bakeries have opened in larger cities. Check the listing for hours, whether the shop accepts custom cake orders and its Google rating before you go, and call about allergens, since small kitchens often share equipment. Day-old bread and end-of-day discounts are common if you ask.

Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Pittsburgh is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Pennsylvania's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

La Gourmandine is one of our family’s favorite French bakeries. Everything here is absolutely wonderful, and their pastries are the kind that no one can stay indifferent to. Their desserts truly go straight to the heart. One of our favorites is the Chou aux Fruits, and I only recently found out that they also make a Chou aux Fruits cake, which is so exciting. For the past two years, we have ordered the Fraisier cake for birthdays, and it has been perfect every time. It is delicate, full of beautiful strawberry flavor, and not overly sweet, so you can really taste and enjoy the ingredients. The staff at the Hazelwood location is always very welcoming, kind, and ready to help. Thank you so much for your amazing work!

Nice people. Products uniquely tasty and reasonably priced. They ain't "Little Debbies" Respectful. Place is clean. Handicap accessible. Parking on the street. Be careful with traffic. Best to go in daytime

Le Gourmandine can be put on any corner in Paris France and it would be packed. I'm telling you this from experience. Please do not miss this Hidden gem in Pittsburgh. Actually there are multiple locations so please make sure you check it out and make sure you get the raspberry lychee macaroon, it is gluten free made with almond flour and it is the best thing I've ever put in my mouth hands down

On the way to Homestead and thought I'd swing by La Gourmandine in Hazelwood (been to the downtown one many times). Quality here is on par with downtown (which is to say, excellent). The delice de pistache was fresh, light, and full of cream that wasn't over the top with being sweet. Same with the macaron aux fruits (the raspberries were super fresh and so was the vanilla pastry cream). The women working there were also very friendly. Wonderful place and would go again if I lived here (probably everyday!) Five stars.

La Gourmandine is a local French bakery chain, and it is definitely one of the best in the area. My husband and I have really enjoyed every tart and croissant that we have bought from them. They also sell sandwiches, quiches, cakes, and breads, which I might someday try. I think that the prices are very reasonable for the high quality. The employees have promptly and politely greeted me, carefully packaged my foods, accurately processed my payment, and thanked me and wished me a great day. The only negative about this business is the location in an area that has street parking and lots of traffic.
